Freebies: Talk Like a Pirate Day!

9.19.2013

September 19th is INTERNATIONAL TALK-LIKE-A-PIRATE DAY!  To learn more click here. Here are some fun idea for Pirate adventures you can have on that day.  Easy ways to make your kids think you're the coolest Mom on earth.

1. Check out library books
We went with...

Pirate Pete's Talk Like a Pirate
Shiver Me Timbers!: Pirate Poems & Paintings
Backbeard and the Birthday Suit

2. Listen to cool pirate music
Over dinner we listened to this clip from YouTube of a medley of Pirate Songs from the kid's Disney TV show "Jake and the Neverland Pirates". It's perfect because it's around 16 minutes long so you won't have to change songs often.

3. Find out your pirate name

4. Make a pirate dinner/dessert.
This year I went with our family's favorite Southwest Stuffed Green Peppers.  They look like a boat and my kids were beyond thrilled!

You could also stick these into hoagie sandwiches, mini meatloaves, jumbo muffins/cupcakes or stuffed peppers (like we did).

Here's the printable I whipped up!

Printed pirate sails
long wooden skewers

1. Print sails onto standard printer paper and cut out flags and trim around edges.
2. Use skewer to pierce top center of flag, pushing from right side to wrong side.
3. Push skewer from wrong side to right side in the bottom center.
4. Trim top of skewer to desired height with scissors.
5. Stick into boat shaped food and enjoy.

FREEBIE: Back 2 School Binder Printables

9.09.2013

Maybe it's because I am currently 8 months pregnant, but I have the overwhelming urge to be more organized this school year. My daughters just started 3rd grade and 1st grade. I needed a system to keep their important papers, artwork and report cards, all in one place. I got the idea to make a School Year Binder for each. And since school supplies are still at good prices, this is a great time to set one up.

(1) 1 or 1&1/2 inch binder for each school child
(1) set of binder dividers with 5 tabs
  10-20 plastic sleeves
hole punch (optional)
Downloaded binder inserts by Plucky Momo (download link below)

1. Print binder cover page onto un-textured cardstock.  I buy mine from Wal*Mart and it's the perfect weight and super-cheap.

2. Fill out (or let child fill out) binder cover page.  Slip into front of binder.

3. Print School Day Photo page, attach first day photo, and insert it into first page protector in binder OR hole punch the edges and add to binder.

4. Have (or help) child fill out the questionnaire about their first day of school insert it into next page protector in binder OR hole punch the edges and add to binder.

5. Label 5 tabs as follows..

Great Grades: Put completed tests, homework and other projects which received great marks.
Awesome Awards: Certificates from school, grades, sports, etc go here.
Friends & Fun: I will put birthday party invites from school friends, notes from buddies, etc, here.
Report Cards: Place report cards and progress reports here.

Amazing Artwork: Artwork and coloring pages from school.  Be sure to date each item on the back before you insert it into your plastic sleeves.  If an art project is larger than 8.5x11", scan or take a photo of it and print it onto 8.5x11" paper.

(or customize categories to suit your needs).

6. Put these binders in a central place and put papers into them as soon as they return home.  This will ensure you keep everything organized and in place.  Add more page protectors as needed.

7. At the end of the school year take a photo and place it on the School Day Photo page. Have child fill out Last Day of School questionnaire.  Then, flip through the book with your child in the first week of Summer and re-discover the wonderful school year they had!

FREE Printable: Back to School Photo Checklist

8.21.2013

My family is ready for school to start in just 2 weeks! I can't wait! I wanted to more fully document our Back 2 School prep this year. I have been taking my camera with me as we prepped. If you've already finished some of these items, just go back to the Back To School isle and re-take photos. The isles are still filled with new clothes, new school supplies and back to school goodies.

I made a quick list of 30 Back to School Photos to take this year.
I made a cute checklist so you can have one too!
I made this a pdf file for easy printing and didn't add too much color...with school starting you're gunna need all the printer ink you can get!

Hope you like it!

Free Printable: Meal Planner

7.14.2013

I have a love/hate relationship with meal planning. I hate doing it, but love when it's done and I feel more control over my week. I figure making a cute template would make the job easier.  This is how I do meal planning; I have a master list of every meal our family regularly eats, divided by proteins and vegetarian.  I pull up that list and pick a meal from each category. I also try and add one new recipe to try each week or two.  Then if we like it, it gets saved and enters the rotation.

I plan the weeks meals and then go day-by-day and write groceries we will need in the right hand column. Then the list goes with me to the store and afterwards, gets hung on the fridge.  It works for us!

Here are some printables I made today.  They print two to a page. Choose black and white or color and just print that page as many times as you would like.  You can cut the page down the center or plan two weeks at a time...you overachiever you!

And because I know some of you will want need color in your list to make this task more fun, here's a color version as well.

FREE Summer Printables by Plucky Momo

6.19.2013

Hey crafty friends!
Summer officially started for our family on Tuesday of this week and so far I am failing at making it a memorable Summer.  Being 6 months pregnant is my current excuse.
But this morning I got up with renewed vigor for making the Summer fun in simple and inexpensive ways.

Check out FREEBIES from Plucky Momo past to jump start your Summer fun!  Click the image below to be directed to the download link and instructions.

New to the party is SUMMER READING BINGO!

Simply print off and give rewards for Bingos and eventually Black-out.  You might want to tell kids they can only accomplish one square at a time (in the grass and at a park can't be done at the same time).

I plan on making a Reading Bingo for each season!

*Note: I saw the idea for Bingo here, but changed it to suit all families (ie: not all families have a Daddy to read to).
